​   Maps and GIS for City Planning

 

     As an Environmental Planner for the City of New York, I worked closely with the Cadastral Unit, issuing house numbers and amending the official City Map to incorporate information associated with new developments planned or constructed in the Borough of the Bronx. This work provided me with direct experience connecting development activity, address information, cadastral records, and official mapping. It required accuracy, detailed research, careful documentation, and effective coordination across technical disciplines. I understand the importance of maintaining authoritative geographic records that support planning, development, engineering, and public decision-making.

     My experience at the New York City Department of City Planning further developed my knowledge of the City's geographic data infrastructure. I worked in both the GIS Unit and the Geographic Research Unit, where I helped maintain and update important citywide mapping datasets. In the GIS Unit, I participated in the maintenance of the Bytes of the Big Apple datasets and prepared geographic information for public release. This work strengthened my experience with GIS data management, data quality, metadata documentation, and the dissemination of authoritative public information.  I subsequently worked in the Geographic Research Unit maintaining the LION (Linear Integrated Online Networking) centerline street data file. In this role, I reviewed and updated street-segment information and incorporated spatial and numerical data associated with street addresses issued to new or revised developments throughout New York City.
